Celebrate 4/20

Click here for the website where there is a youtube video clip of the ad called Legalization: Yes We Can

I decided to choose this ad because it fits perfectly with such a holiday as today, 4/20. I’m sure most of you will be happy about this ad. This if the First-Ever Nationwide Pro-Marijuana TV Ad. Even though I am not a smoker, I fully support this campaign ad because since 1965, over 20 million Americans have been arrested on cannabis-related charges, 90% for possession-only, and over 900,000 cannabis arrests are expected again this year. This is insane! Our jails and prisons are overcrowded year after year with tons of non-violent crimes, marijuana users topping the charts with no history of violence or crimes on their records. People had to start getting medical marijuana prescriptions just to smoke it “legally”. It’s time to put a stop to this ridiculous drug busting crime and to free the jails and prisons of the harmless citizens, and for law enforcements to start doing there job and punishing actual criminals and arresting harmful predators. I find this ad very effective and such a great informational ad which could potentially transform America. All we need now is change, and Obama is just the man for it!

I am impressed by this ad. I think the fact that they used a wide variety of people–and made a statement about that diversity (from profession, to race, to sexual lifestyle)–is an effective strategy to help weed out the common stereotypes that are typically pinned onto the “pro-legalization” crowd. Also, the information given wasn’t obnoxiously thrown at the audience–these people seemed level-headed, which made it easier to process their argument (and I felt an aspect of WANTING to know what they had to say). Nicely done, for a controversial subject!
